I made our reservations in August for an October stay. When we arrived they did not have our reservation. We were told we could dry camp, next to the road and have a hook up site the following night. It had rained and the campground was swamped. We have a 38 foot motor home and doubt we would have fit anyway. The sites are crammed into a small area behind the only gas station on the island. There are not good interior roads. They do offer a dump station. Even though they are on "island time", I don't think this is very professional.

We were passing through en route to the Outer Banks and this was the only campground in the Raleigh area. I had called ahead to make sure there was a site and was told the site numbers. This is an RV dealership that has hook up sites that are mostly occupied by monthly renters. As we were pulling in, the police were at a travel trailer next to the site number we were told. After we were parked, we spoke to the resident who told us his camper was burglarized and the TV stolen, while he was away for the weekend. We did not rest easy that night. We did not see any pull though sites and we did not have cable. If there are cable sites, perhaps the monthlies are occupying them. There is a Walmart less than a mile away.

I had read the previous reviews and was very concerned since we already had reservations. Staff were international exchange students. When we checked in, they were friendly and helpful. They gave us an escort to open sites and let us choose. They did accept credit cards and gave a discount for AAA. They also suggested we only pay for a few nights in case we wanted to leave because there were no refunds. Sites are only 30 amp, were very narrow, gravel and only a few with trees. We did not use them, but the bathrooms and showers were filthy. There is a sign in both male and female restrooms to travel with a companion at night! Park is in the flight pattern of airplane and helicopter tours, but they don't fly at night. It is within walking distance to merchandise shops, restaurants and a market. There are no fires and old picnic tables. The sites are not well marked. We stayed for six nights. On our last night, the staff parked someone right next to us and they were facing in the opposite direction. There was not a double hook up for the electric, so the office came and asked us to move our power cord. The new folks moved to a more adequate site, but stated they had visited this park for 5 years and the price has gone up but the quality has gone down.

The forest offers shade, quiet and seclusion. There was an escort to the site and the staff were friendly and helpful. The gravel sites were not level. They only offer 30 amp, but it was so cool in mid-September, we didn't need the AC on. Water is trucked in so we were asked to conserve. Restrooms were port-a-potties and were locked in our section. Firepits are available, but not on site, they were across the road in a tent section. We were here during Deer Bow season and the campground filled up. It is one hour drive to the Grand Canyon North Rim and 45 minutes to Kanab, the only grocery. Fuel prices are much higher on the Plateau. They offered a modem hookup but requested a 15 minute time limit. They did recycle aluminum.

All the staff were very knowledgable and went out of their way to offer things to do in the area. The sites are narrow and the small trees offer very little shade. We requested 50 amp and were put on a 30 amp site. After we were hooked up, they offered to move us to 50 amp, which was the same price. They have several Workampers but did not offer an escort to the site. Bathrooms and private showers were clean. The payphone charged 30 units for a calling card. They do offer WiFi for a fee, and there is a computer modem, however no local numbers for AOL. Firepits available and firewood for sale. Campground is close to the road, and occasionally there is some road noise. It is located close to a Sinclair gas station and a new BLM/Visitor Center. It is also close to Kodachrome State Park, but about 15 miles from Bryce Canyon National Park. There is a small heated pool. There is a group pavilion and they offered a marshmallow roast Saturday night of Labor Day weekend. They did not recycle.

The views are fantastic. There is a movie prop church on site. Very close to all the attractions. The check in also serves as the gift shop/convenience store/gas station and gets a lot of business. When the staff is busy, it is difficult to ask questions. There was no escort to the site, but they are well marked. Sites are level, gravel, no grass. But there are small trees between each site. The sites are narrow for slide outs. Picnic table and BBQ grill at each site. No fire pits but there is a large, community fire pit near the pool. There is a dog walk. Adequate garbage facilities but they do not offer recycling containers. The price on their website was $23.95. Add another $3 for 50 amp, which was not advertised. Plenty of camping cabins, all with a good view. The modem hook up is attached to a payphone and is posted for "Email download only". Even though it is off the road, you do hear some road noise. We would stay here again.

This campground is not the closest full hook up to Capitol Reef National Park. However, there is a great view, small trees, a patch of grass and firepits. Sites are level, gravel but very narrow. They offer a computer modem but you have to pay for the half hour, even if you have your own computer. The owner has diversified too much and has gotten greedy. They offer a huge gift store, firewood, ATV and Jeep rentals, she sells muffins and offers a BBQ dinner on the weekends and they have a hair salon on site. They do not recycle. They did deliver a message about incoming mail.

The park is easy access to I-270 but it is in an industrial area. Semi transport companies surround the campground. Railroad tracks are close by. There was an escort to the site, but the staffmember who checked us in was not very friendly. She did not even know that a highly recognized bike trail was just out the front door. The sites are very narrow for big rigs with slide outs and awnings. We visited during a draught and the gravel roads were very dusty. The sites were level enough. WiFi is offered but is not free. This would be a good campground for overnight, but not for an extended stay.

Big rigs beware! Before the registration office there are VERY rough railroad tracks. Then you have to cross a wooden bridge to turn around. Don't cross the RR tracks, walk to the office. The big rig sites are in an open field. Good if you have a satellite. The sites were not mowed and grass has grown over the gravel. And it was not level. Our neighbor had to move because of low voltage. They offer 30 and 50 amp in the big rig sites. The fishing pond is an old swimming pool. Mountain ranges are beautiful.

There have been some improvements. There was new gravel that was just graded. We arrived the day after a big storm and we could see some washed out areas that had not been repaired yet. Our site was a very long 50 amp pull through. It was somewhat level, but we didn't have to take major steps to level it. The other 30/50 amp sites look wide enough, but may be a little short. We did see a big rig and a large fifth wheel in that area. The whole campground was freshly mowed. There is a new playground with a wooden play set and sand box complete with Tonka Trucks. They offer a pavilion, shuffleboard, sand volleyball, a heated pool and a fishing pond. The staff was helpful and there was an escort to the site. However, he did not have knowledge of the turning radius of a big rig. On the weekend the campground was full. They did have planned activities for the weekend, and in our section the other campers were quiet at night. The showers were newly renovated and there were hair blow dryers mounted on the wall. One negative was rusty water, but we have a filter. And the black flies were bad, but that isn't the campgrounds fault. Otherwise, I would say the new owners are doing a great job!

The power went out in our section of the campground. The owner wanted to move us to sites without sewer hook up. There was a $5 fee to dump, even for registered campers. Owner refused a refund. The laundry was locked all the time and only one washing machine was working, no dryers worked. There was a $1 per day fee for dogs. Gravel sites were overgrown with grass and most were not level. They did not offer propane. Campstore was very poor. Required that two people are at the pool together, even adults.
